Application: WDI August 4-8, 2012

Application Deadline: July 15, 2012 or until all spots are filled. The committee will begin reviewing applications on January 15th, 2012 and acceptance will be rolling.
Development Series Criteria
1. One or more years of local debate experience
2. Has never attended a non-UDL debate camp
3. Some competitive success, which can be demonstrated by speaker awards, out-round participation, or consistent strong preliminary round performance
4. Strong commitment to debate
5. Aligned with the values of the WDI
6. Community service or leadership record
7. Interest in debating in college
Enrichment Series Criteria
1. One or more years of regional/national circuit debate experience
2. Attendance at one or more national debate institutes of one-week duration
3. Significant competitive success, which can be demonstrated by speaker awards and/or consistent out-round participation.
4. Strong commitment to debate
5. Aligned with the values of the WDI
6. Community service or leadership record
7. Interest in debating in college

- Application
- Personal statement – Your statement should be no longer then one single-spaced page. It should offer the committee information about you and why you would like to attend the WDI.
- An essay – Your essay should be no longer than two single-spaced pages and should advance an argument in favor of or against a contemporary government policy. Your essay should have a strong thesis statement, demonstrate quality support and reasoning, and showcase quality writing skills.
- A formal letter of recommendation from a debate coach or a teacher who has worked with you in the past year. It can be sent with your application or directly to Leah Castella at leahcastella@gmail.com
WDI is tuition-free for all accepted students. Students are responsible for travel costs to and from camp. Scholarships to assist with the costs of travel are available for students with a demonstrated financial need. Please inquire for more information.
