Getting to Fort Worden
Fort Worden is a two hour drive from Seattle. The Fort's website has an excellent
Directions page, with information about ferries. If you prefer, you can take the car and passenger ferry from Keystone to Port Townsend. We'll be happy to pick you up at the ferry terminal, but be sure to let us know.
Lodging
Students and staff will stay in the Fort Worden dormitories. Linens, a pillow and blanket, bar soap, and towels are provided. Your registration fee includes dinner on August 8th, breakfast, lunch, and dinner on August 9th and 10th, and breakfast on August 11th. You will be staying in dormitory style lodging. There is ample opportunity for card games, music, and other night time revelry. Students have a curfew of 10 pm each night. Staff members stay in the adjacent dormitory. .
What to bring
Basic linens and towels are provided. Debaters may wish to bring
sleeping bags or pillows. Although it is summer, Fort Worden is on
Puget Sound and it can get *cold* at night! We recommend bringing warm
clothes (long pants, a sweater and jacket, even a hat and scarf) for
night time activities. Students have access to the Fort's many hiking
trails, and we organize a hike on one day. Bring sturdy walking shoes -
hiking boots aren't necessary. Flashlights come in very handy. As
always, cameras, iPods, and computers are allowed. The Fort has
wi-fi access, but cell phone coverage can be spotty. It's not all fun
and games! Bring paper, pens, notebooks, and any debate supplies you
normally use. If you are applying for college and have begun writing
entrance essays, bring those too. Our staff would love to help you
polish and brainstorm your essay. If you have any other questions,
please contact us. See you in August!
